The Eldred Central School District (ECS) board of education conducted its monthly meeting on July 12, during which it elected and swore in its slate of officers. From left, first row, is vice president Amador Laput and board member Carol Bliefernich. In the second row is president Douglas Reiser and board member James Burns. Absent from the photo was board member Linda Bohs. The board also approved a Concussion Management Policy to support the proper evaluation and management of head injuries. ECS recently rescheduled its monthly meetings to begin at 7 p.m.
The Town of Highland Town Board voted unanimously in favor of adopting Local Law 3 at its monthly meeting on July 10, which effectively bans gas drilling and other heavy industrial activity in the town. With that move, the Town of Highland became the fourth Sullivan County town to adopt similar zoning, creating an expanding block of bordering towns including Tusten, Lumberland and Bethel. Read more

Zombies recently invaded Eldred Central High School (ECS), not long after a gory car crash and its lacerated victims were treated by emergency personnel in the school parking lot. The zombies never made the news, and the prom crash won’t appear in any police reports. That’s because both were staged events, with ultra-realistic special effects executed by a gifted ECS high school senior who appears to have found her calling. Read more
In ongoing efforts to receive feedback from all concerned parties, the Town of Highland Town Board has scheduled two more opportunities to have questions answered and to offer public comment on proposed Local Law 3, which would ban high-impact industrial activity such as that associated with natural gas drilling, and recent revisions made to the draft.
