With expressions of mutual respect and gratitude, the Town of Highland honored its retiring highway superintendent, Norman Sutherland, at its monthly meeting on December 13. Town supervisor Andrew Boyar roasted Sutherland at the meeting’s end with a series of gag gifts and a humorous account of Sutherland’s history and successful service to the town. Read more
A life-size nativity scene has been erected behind the Piazza in Eldred. It was created by the staff at the Corner Store. They hope to add to it over the years, and it is available to the public for viewing anytime. It was blessed by Father Tom from St. Anthony of Padua R.C. Church in Yulan on December 3.

On Veteran’s Day, newly refurbished monuments were dedicated in the Town of Highland at Heroes Park in Eldred in honor of those who served in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War and for all who have served America. Read more

The Town of Highland recently completed a draft rewrite of its comprehensive plan following a lengthy process that included 16 working sessions open to the public, as well as four community-wide visioning sessions. Members of the Comprehensive Plan Task Force, which was established in April 2007, presented the draft to town supervisor Andrew Boyar at the town meeting on October 11. Read more
On Saturday, October 8, Troopers investigated a property damage accident in the parking lot of Peck's Market in Eldred, NY. The store manager stated a 1988 Chevy pickup struck the store building while attemting to park. The building sustained no damage. Donald G. Dicola, age 49 of Honesdale, PA was charged with felony Driving While Intoxicated and felony Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 1st. He was arraigned before T/Highland court T/J LaRuffa and posted $1,000 bail to reappear in court on October 12, 2011.
