Boy killed in Cochecton ATV accident

An eight-year-old boy was killed in an all-terrain-vehicle (ATV) accident on New Turnpike Road in the Town of Cochecton on August 24. New York State Police issued a press release that said they were called to the scene at about 5:30 p.m.  Read more

Building fences

Visitors to the popular river spot, Skinners Falls, will notice a change this summer. Surrounding the field near the parking lot is now a fence, and there is now a $1 fee to get inside. The field, which one can walk through to get to the path that leads to the rocks down by the falls, is private property owned by Rick and Lisa Lander of Landers River Trips.  Read more

Vesak program

Dharmakaya Retreat Center hosts a Vesak program to celebrate the significant events of Buddha Shakyamuni’s life, 2pm. Dharma teacher Colin Foote will give a talk on Buddha Shakyamuni followed by prayers and praises of Buddha. Tea and cookies served.

Cochecton man arrested in tractor theft

On November 16, 2012, the New York State Police at Liberty received a report that a Kubota tractor had been stolen from property in the Town of Cochecton. On December 1, 2012, after an investigation by members the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and with the assistance of the Pennsylvania State Police, the tractor was located in Beach Lake, Pennsylvania.  Read more

A group called “Keep Cochecton Green” has put up a petition online at regarding horizontal hydrofracking for natural gas, and is passing around a circular requesting that residents of the Town of Cochecton sign it.  Read more

First river rescue of the season

The National Canoe Safety Patrol performed its first river rescue on Saturday, May 26 at Skinners Falls. Erika Poston rescued Danilo Carvajal, 59, a visiting Queens resident, on her first day of service on the patrol.  Read more
