Student volunteers at Wayne County Historical Society

ELDRED, NY — Seven Eldred Junior-Senior High School students won a total of 10 gold and silver key awards for this year’s Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. They are all art students of Jennifer Powell.  Read more

Youth advisory group awards grant

HONESDALE, PA — The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) of the Wayne County Community Foundation recently awarded a grant to Marci Jones’ class at the Stourbridge Primary Center. The funds will be used to purchase monarch butterfly eggs used as part of an integrated reading/science program activity. The foundation’s advisory committee familiarizes high school student leaders with the benefits of charitable giving. Wayne County High School students select winners of mini-grants, which are submitted from county schools.  Read more

Chain reaction gains momentum at Port Jervis High School

Snow and intense cold didn't stop the Friends of Rachel's Club from continuing its chain reaction of kindness and compassion at Port Jervis High School.

On January 10, close to 100 students, staff, parents and community leaders came together to participate in the intense Chain Reaction Day. The students spent the entire school day in the gymnasium interacting with adult leaders in high energy activities and emotional discussions. The goal is to empower the students to make a difference in their community.  Read more

Eldred School seeks BOCES board representative

At the regular meeting of the Eldred Central School Board of Education held on Thursday, January 9, Superintendent Robert Dufour announced that Paul Burckard will not be seeking re-election as Eldred’s representative to the Sullivan County Board of Cooperative Services. Community forums set for Monticello superintendent search

MONTICELLO, NY — The Monticello Central School will hold community forums on Wednesday, February 5 at 7 p.m. at the Cooke Elementary School and on Wednesday, February 12 at 6:30 p.m.at the Chase Elementary School. The purpose of the forums is to give residents an opportunity to help identify and define some of the characteristics that the new Superintendent of Schools should possess. Both forums, hosted by the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), will be held in the school gymnasiums.  Read more

Students make bookmarks for residents at Achieve

LIBERTY, NY — Antonio Rodriguez, five years old, gives a bookmark to Roberta Grundt, president of the Resident Council at Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility in Liberty. Rodriguez attends St. Peters Regional School in Liberty, and he and his classmates helped to color bookmarks for the residents at Achieve. Rodriguez said wants to be a doctor when he grows up.

Monticello Middle School Builders Club give holiday cards to veterans

MONTICELLO, NY — Members of the RJK Middle School Builders Club have been busy this fall with many community service projects. The students sent holiday greeting cards and included personal messages to veterans at the Veterans Medical Center at Castle Point, New York.  Read more
