‘Earth to Earthlings’

BEACH LAKE, PA — Visiting minister Mary Tiebout will lead a service entitled “Earth to Earthlings” at the Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship meeting at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 19 at the Berlin Township Community Center. A recently revived journal that records one man’s brief soul encounter with the earth is a reminder to us that what became religious in most cultures was initially about a people’s relationship to place. CCE workshops return on Earth Day

LIBERTY, NY — Homeowners and renters can learn to reduce energy consumption and lower energy bills at a Save Energy, Save Dollars workshop on Wednesday, April 22. This EmPower New York class is being offered by Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County at 6 p.m. at the Gerald J. Skoda Extension Education Center on 64 Ferndale-Loomis Rd.

Participants who attend this free event will learn about reducing energy bills by following some low-cost and no-cost energy conservation methods. Each person will receive three compact fluorescent light bulbs at no cost to them.  Read more

Making jams and jellies

LIBERTY, NY — A workshop on preserving food using the hot-water-bath canning method to make jams and jellies is being offered on Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County (CCESC) will hold this canning class for beginners in its new Entrepreneurial and Teaching (EaT) Kitchen, located at the CCESC Gerald J. Grief and dementia program

LIBERTY, NY — Cornell Cooperative Extension Sullivan County (CCESC)’s Caregiver Resource Center will host a Living with Grief® program for caregivers, professionals and the general public, produced by the Hospice Foundation of America (HFA), on Wednesday, April 22. Exotic chickens

MONTICELLO, NY —Craig Russell, president of the Society for the Preservation of Poultry Antiquities will return to the Catskill Exotic Bird Club on Thursday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. at 20 Crystal St. Accompanying Craig will be a collection of some of his most unusual and rare chickens. Probably the most knowledgeable poultry historian living today, Craig will give an entertaining presentation about rare and weird breeds of chickens and their relatives at the April meeting of the Catskill Exotic Bird Club.  Read more

Courses at the library

NARROWSBURG, NY — The public computer center of the Western Sullivan Public Library has two workshops in April. “Understanding and Maintaining Your Computer,” at the branch in Narrowsburg, will take place on Saturday, April 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. The class will review the functionality within the control panel to manage sounds, hardware, programs, disk clean-up, defragmentation and more. Awareness at service

BEACH LAKE, PA — Pat Sanders will present a program on the topic of awareness based on a yoga teacher’s observations at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 12 at the Berlin Township Community Center. She will explore the concept of “bare attention,” showing how we can grow into a wise and honest mindfulness that helps us to live gratefully and fully.
