Night sky and pizza pie

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — On Saturday, November 5 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., the Catskill Astronomy Club and Morgan Outdoors will host a showing of NOVA’s “Monster of the Milky Way” at Morgan Outdoors, 46 Main St. The film screening is accompanied by pizza, salad and soft drinks, with a break for questions and second helpings. Catskill Astronomy Club members John Kocijanski and Jim McKeegan will be present to answer questions and lead a public viewing session of the night skies after the film.

In “Monster of the Milky Way” (60 minutes, narrated by Liev Schreiber) astronomers are closing in on the proof they’ve sought for years that one of the most destructive objects in the universe—a supermassive black hole—is lurking right in the center of our own galaxy. Could it flare up and devour our entire galactic neighborhood?

Immediately following the film, there will be an outdoor public viewing session nearby (weather permitting) to find Andromeda and the Milky Way. Anyone with a budding interest in astronomy can meet Catskill Astronomy Club members and learn about future public viewing events. This program is suitable for children age 12 and up.

A $7 donation to the Catskill Astronomy Club is requested for dinner and the film; $5 per person for families of three or more. Advance registration is required. Call 845/439-5507 before 12 noon on November 5.
