NARROWSBURG, NY — Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) will reprise the popular Salon Series of concerts from February to April with the addition of an artist’s talk and a play reading for 2014. Salon Series events are meant to be informal and comfortable, with opportunities to chat with the artists and to shake off the winter doldrums. Events are held in the Delaware Arts Center’s Krause Recital Hall, 37 Main St., which is accessible by elevator.

The series opens on Sunday, February 9 at 2 p.m., with jazz artists Steve Carlin (guitar) and Sam Morrison (saxophone and flute).

Composer/guitarist Carlin writes passionate compositions, melodies and rhythmic pulses that showcase his world music influences playing both electric and acoustic guitars. Carlin has played with groups ranging from 17-piece orchestras to duos and has performed and recorded as a soloist. He was also the host and producer of “Rhythm Changes” on WJFF and a frequent guest on “Live from Studio B.”

Morrison is a jazz saxophone and flute player/composer whose credits include being a member of the Miles Davis Band. He has played with many legendary jazz greats like Gil Evans, Buster Williams, Woody Shaw and Billy Hart, and he is currently playing with Michael Henderson’s Electric Miles Band, with performances scheduled in London, England and Milan, Italy, and in New York City at CCNY and The Cutting Room. His latest solo release is titled “Dark Matter.”

The first Salon: Artist Talk in the series will be held on Saturday, February 22 at 1 p.m. and will feature Helena Clare Pittman, whose work will concurrently be on exhibit in the Alliance Gallery. The artist talk is free.

Salon events continue on Sunday, March 23 at 2 p.m. with the quartet Jazzmosis playing jazz/rock fusion; on Sunday, March 30 with Tara Kelly (clarinet) and Timothy Farrand (piano) playing works by Finzi, Gershwin, Bach and Chopin; and Sunday, April 6 with the reading of Bill Donnelly’s new play, “Silverstein.”

Salon events cost $10. The February 22 artist talk is free. For information and reservations, call 845/252-7576 or visit www.artsalliancesite.org.
