NARROWSBURG, NY — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance invites musicians of all levels to a jam session with Simple Gifts, a duo made up of two women playing twelve instruments who specialize in Romanian, Klezmer, Greek, Irish, Scandinavian and Appalachian folk genres. The jam session takes place Friday, November 15 at 7 p.m. in the Krause Recital Hall at the Delaware Arts Center, 37 Main St. The event is free.
Combining tradition with innovation, Simple Gifts creates some of the finest arrangements in folk music today: swing fiddle creeps into a Romanian dance, spoons show up in an Irish reel, and the concertina ventures far beyond styles considered traditional for that instrument. Based in Pennsylvania, these women play an amazing array of instruments and switch with ease among them.
Simple Gifts comes to DVAA courtesy of Bethel Woods’ Education Program. Bethel Woods has had a year-long artist partnership with the group, which will conclude with a public performance on Sunday, April 27, 2014. For more information, call 845/252-7576.
