September 4, 2013

JEFFERSONVILLE, NY — The Callicoon Creek will be the scene for 1,200 to 1,500 yellow, blue and pink ducks racing on Jeff Fest Day, to be held on Saturday, September 14 from the Mill Pond to the finish line at the Schadt Memorial Bridge. They will be set off at 1 p.m. and will be followed by “youth duck herders” and cheered on by hundreds of race fans. Also during Jeff Fest, there will be a tractor parade at 11 a.m.

The first place winner will receive $300, second place $200, third place $1,000, and the last slowest 36 “pokey ducks” will receive gift certificates to merchants in Jeffersonville and elsewhere in Sullivan County.

The race is sponsored by the JEMS (Jeffersonvile Enhances More of Sullivan), a Sullivan Renaissance volunteer group that benefits community improvements and beautification.

Tickets for the seventh annual duck race can be purchased at Specially U Salon, Magnifique Salon, C & M Kennel, Echo letterpress, Welsh Cabin, Red Door Consignment Shoppe and The Creekside Deli & Cafe, all in Jeffersonville; the Towne Gift Shoppe in Youngsville; and from JEM volunteers Jack Costello (845/482-3731) and Catherine Scott (845/701-1020.)
