NARROWSBURG, NY — Three new exhibits will open at the Delaware Arts Center’s Alliance Gallery on Friday, July 12 from 7 to 9 p.m.

One is "Amusing the Muse," drawings by Richard Gubernick. Born, raised, and educated in the shadow of Yankee Stadium, artist Gubernick attended youth classes at The Museum of Modern Art, obtained a BS degree from Buffalo State, and earned an MFA from The University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He subsequently taught painting for over 25 years at Buffalo State. In recent years he has concentrated on drawing with ink on acrylic backgrounds.

“Spatial Pathways” paintings and mixed media works by Edward Evans and Joyce Pommer will be in the LOFT Gallery.

Pommer’s mixed media pieces and Evans’ paintings complement one another as shapes and colors are re-echoed back and forth. A common thread of colors, shapes and movement binds the paintings as areas are heightened while interacting with each other.

Evans paints with an airbrush to create a flowing, illusionist quality that cannot be achieved by other painting techniques. He was born and educated in Minnesota. He taught painting, drawing and contemporary art history for many years and is a Professor Emeritus of Art, Southwest Minnesota State University. He and his wife, Connie moved to Stroudsburg, PA in 2002 and started Gallery 705.

“Fascinating conversations develop when exhibiting our paintings together,” says artist Joyce Pommer. Like Evans, her paintings evolve out of her subconscious in a free flowing process. Pommer brings her pieces to life with a collage of handmade, monoprint and marbled papers, fabrics and other diverse materials onto a surface of canvas or wood panels. Pommer was born in Quincy, MA and studied at The Academy of Art College in San Francisco, The Art Institute of Boston and the Art Students League in New York City. Having owned and operated a gallery in NYC for the past eight years, she recently returned to focusing primarily on painting.

After receiving an overwhelmingly positive response last year, “Art in Bloom” will return to the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance for a second year in a row. This group exhibition is curated by Jane Luchsinger. “Art in Bloom” features live floral arrangements composed by local garden clubs, Master Gardeners and florists. Each arrangement is a visual interpretation of a painting or sculpture, which will also be on display.
