Family fun planned for Zane Grey Festival

LACKAWAXEN, PA — The National Park Service and the Zane Grey’s West Society will host the 9th annual Zane Grey Festival on Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Zane Grey Museum.

The festival is for the entire family with many activities and events for children and adults. The Steamtown Ramblers will perform at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and opera singer Carol Diefenbach of the Delaware Valley Opera at 12:30 p.m. Doc Miller, also known as the Cowboy Dentist, will tell stories about cowboys. Environmental groups and historical societies will display exhibits about their organizations, many of which will have hands-on activities for children. Other activities include trying your hand at roping cattle, learning how to cast a fishing rod and water safety.

Nathaniel Whitmore from the Delaware Highlands Mushroom Society will lead a wild edible and medicinal plants walk on the Zane Grey property at 11 a.m. The Lackawaxen Fire Company will be cooking hamburgers and hotdogs, and will hold the annual Lackawaxen Fireman’s Carnival complete with fireworks at dusk.
