Something old, something new at ARTery

MILFORD, PA — The ARTery gallery will host exhibits by a returning member and a new member in September. Both will start on Friday, September 7 and run through Monday, October 8, with a reception on Saturday, September 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. during Milford’s Art After Dark program.

Ben vanSteenburgh was a member of the ARTery, a cooperative art gallery, in its early years, and has recently returned to the fold. His unique paintings are instantly recognized and have been favorites of the Pike County Arts and Crafts annual members’ exhibits, which he has exhibited in for several decades. VanSteenburgh brings a lifetime of experience in book illustration, portrait painting and figure studies to this collection of 15 yoga paintings, each done with an eye toward unusual poses and vibrant color combinations. The intent is the bold impact of modern art combined with the detail and realism of classic art.

The gallery will also host a restrospective exhibit of Harriet Cotterill. At 94, Cotterill is still creating. Her involvement and dedication has helped Milford become the active art community that it is today. When the ARTery Gallery opened its doors in 1999, Harriet Cotterill was one of its first members. She’s also been an active member of The Pike County Arts and Crafts for 61 of its 63 years.

Art is a living heirloom for Harriet, who learned to work in many mediums with her father, Arthur Von Igatius. She has created scenic backdrops, pen-and-ink Tudor style Christmas greeting cards, oils, watercolors and more.

Gallery hours are Friday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit arteryonline.com or call 570/409-1234.
