HAWLEY, PA — On July 28 at the Lake Wallenpaupack Visitor’s Center, 2512 Rte. 6, there will be a lantern festival as a benefit for Marley’s Mission, a non-profit organization that provides equine-based therapy free of charge to children who have experienced trauma. Lantern pick-up and festivities begin at 6:30 p.m., with a lantern lighting time of approximately 9 p.m.

Participants will purchase an eco-friendly sky lantern with no wire or wax. When lit, these lanterns will lift into the air, rising miles and continuing for about 10 minutes. They land and decompose quickly.

Admission includes food, live music performed by Abby Millon and La Lava Django, face painting, drum circles, Circus Yoga and a presentation by Marley’s Mission. At the conclusion of the festivities, all sky lantern holders will disperse along the launch location around twilight.

Lanterns can be picked up at the Visitor’s Center the day of the event from 12 noon on, but you must return promptly at 7:30 p.m. The rain/wind date is Sunday, July 29. There will be parking and a shuttle to the Visitor’s Center at the Wallenpaupack Area High School. All the proceeds from this event benefit Marley’s Mission. Email jill@silkmillharmony.com.
