North Indian music at CAS

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Catskill Art Society (CAS) Arts Center will present “Luminous Ragas,” with Steve Gorn and Bill Buchen, on Saturday, July 21 at 7 p.m. It will be an evening of North Indian Classical Music on the bansuri bamboo flute with Gorn and tablas with Buchen.

Gorn has performed Indian classical music and new American music on the bansuri bamboo flute in concerts and festivals throughout the world. His unique blend of Indian music and contemporary world music can be heard on recordings with Paul Simon, Glen Velez, Jack DeJohnette, Paul Winter and Krishna Das, among many others. Buchen will accompany Gorn on the tablas. He has studied with Kadar Khan, Pandit Samir Chattergee, Anand Kumar Mallick, South Indian percussion with T.S. Nandakumar, and most recently with Ustad Zakir Hussein. He has also performed with Indofunk, Gigi and Drala.

Admission costs $10 for CAS members and $12 for non-members.
