LOCH SHELDRAKE, NY — SUNY Sullivan’s Summer Encore Series presents HD broadcasts of operas performed at the Metropolitan Opera House in NYC in the Seelig Theatre. The next presentation will be “Les Contes d’Hoffman” (“Tales of Hoffman”), by Jacques Offenbach, on July 11. It will be presented at 6:30 p.m., and has a run time of three hours.

Bartlett Sher’s 2009 production stars Joseph Calleja in the title role of Offenbach’s fictionalized take on the life and loves of the German Romantic writer E.T.A. Hoffmann. Anna Netrebko is the tragic Antonia and Alan Held sings the demonic four villains. Met music director James Levine conducts. For those considering bringing younger viewers to this presentation, note that this production does not include the partial nudity that is seen in the stage production.

Other upcoming shows at the Seelig this summer include Lucia di Lammermoor, also part of the Encore series, on July 18, Nego Gato Afro Brazilian Music & Dance Ensemble, and Maya De Silva y Flamenco Revolucion. Visit www.sunysullivan.edu/fun for a complete list

Seats for all performances in SUNY Sullivan’s 2012 Met Opera in HD Summer Encore Series cost $15 for adults and $10 for children age 13 years and younger. Call 845/434-5750, ext. 4472.
