First-run movies at the Rivoli

SOUTH FALLSBURG, NY — The Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop, owner of the historic 1923 Rivoli Theater on Main Street in South Fallsburg, has announced that first-run movies will return to the theater beginning on Friday, June 29, with “Madagascar: Escape to Africa.”

“We’re going to run movies all summer at times when we do not have a live event going on at the theater.” said workshop board nember Jackie Perito. Proceeds from the movie program will help fund the ongoing effort to restore the theater’s classic neon-and-stud-light marquee.

It will be the first time the theater has shown films since the late 1990s. It will be the only operating movie theater in eastern Sullivan County. “The Rivoli will also be the lowest price first-run theater in the area, with ticket prices at $7 for all seats, all times” said Perito.

The theater boasts a brand new big screen, new movie projector, and new popcorn machine. Upcoming titles include “The Amazing Spider-Man,” “Ice Age: Continental Drift” and “The Dark Knight Rises.” Movie times, along with the latest Live Event times can be found at www.scdw.net, or call 845/436-5336.
