HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Creative Arts Council will welcome the Wayne Choralaires back into Honesdale’s Central Park on Monday, June 25 with a new conductor, Betsy Black.
After singing with the Choralaires for a year, Black was tapped to take over the baton from Patricia Spoor for the summer concert. The music director at Canaan Bible Chapel and music instructor at Canaan Christian Academy has chosen a theme of “Summertime” for this season’s concert with “Summertime” from “Porgy and Bess” and “In the Good Old Summertime.” In addition there will be some good old gospel with the likes of “This Old House” and “Just a Closer Walk With Thee” and several patriotic numbers as well.
On Thursday, June 28 the Gypsy Jazz Quintet (GJQ) will return to Central Park. GJQ was formed in 2006 as a musical tribute to the 1930s “hotclub” jazz of gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt and Parisian violinist Staphane Grapelli. It has performed in many venues including Marywood University, the Milford Music Festival and Roots and Rhythm and now have a CD, “Live at the Deer Head Inn.”
