Organ recital honors Korb

HONESDALE, PA — The Rev. Edward K. Erb, rector of Grace Church and an organist, will perform at a recital at Grace Church on Sunday, May 13 at 3 p.m. held in honor of Phyllis A. Korb, who died in March. Korb trained several generations of area musicians, and served many local towns’ churches as an organist in her 80-plus years. When Korb was forced to formally retire in 2008, an annual organ recital was established in her honor.

Taking the theme, “Oh, to be in England now that Spring is here,” Erb will play music from the British Isles both in memory of Phyllis, the “Queen of Music,” and Queen Elizabeth II in her Diamond Jubilee year. Selections from the 18th and 19th centuries will include music by John Stanley, William Boyce, George Handel and Samuel Wesley. The program will include 20th century composers Simon Preston, Herbert Howells, Frank Bridge and others. It is our hope to keep the memory of Phyllis alive for future generations of musicians.

A donation of $10 is requested, though not required. Proceeds will benefit the fund to rebuild the M. P. Moller organ at Grace Church. The church is located at the corner of Church and Ninth Streets in Honesdale.
