Mushroom society heads to Scranton

SCRANTON, PA — Members of the Delaware Highlands Mushroom Society (DHMS) will participate in First Friday Scranton’s monthly art walk with “Wild About Mushrooms,” a display of color photographs and, nature permitting, specimens from recent local mushroom forays. The event will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on February 3 at Eden – A Vegan Cafe on 344 Adams Avenue in Scranton.

DHMS is a local mushroom club whose members, mycophiles, or mushroom lovers, explore the natural environments of Northeast Pennsylvania and the Delaware Highlands searching for beautiful and useful specimens. Their photographs, which will be available for sale at Eden during First Friday and throughout the month of February, reflect the joy and enthusiasm they feel for their fascinating, and sometimes elusive, subjects. Lenore Rogan, a member involved with planning the First Friday event, suggests, “The photos are both beautiful and intimate. They’ll make unique Valentine’s gifts for people with a deep respect for nature.”
