‘My Week with Marilyn’
January 19, 2012 —
CALLICOON, NY — The Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) and the Callicoon Theater will present Michelle Williams in “My Week with Marilyn,” opening from Friday, January 20 to Tuesday, January 24, as part of the CineArt series.
The story takes place during the 1956 filming of “The Prince and the Showgirl,” the movie that united Sir Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh) and Marilyn Monroe (Michelle Williams). A young film student (Eddie Redmayne) talks his way into a job on set as an assistant to Olivier. Monroe asks the innocent 23-year-old to join her for a country getaway. Grateful for his company—and in need of a sympathetic ear—she in exchange gave him access to the vulnerable soul beneath her outer beauty.
Rolling Stone film critic Peter Travers wrote, “What Williams does, with fierce artistry and feeling, is illuminate Monroe’s insights and insecurities about herself at the height of her fame. It’s a great, soulful performance. Sit back and behold.”
The film will screen nightly at 7:30 p.m., with matinees at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission costs $9 ($7 admission on Mondays and matinees, $6 for children under 12). Visit www.ArtsAllianceSite.org call 845/887-4460.
