Sign-up to be held for beauty pageant

LIBERTY, NY — The Sullivan County International Pageant (SCIP) will hold two contestant sign-up events, with a dress exchange on Sundays, January 15 and 29, from 2 to 2:45 p.m. at the Liberty Fitness Center.

The SCIP is far from a beauty contest; it encourages ladies of ages five to 56 to represent Sullivan County, with a strong ethical and moral standard. They will be judged mainly on personality and how they answer the on-stage questions. The pageant will be held at the Villa Roma Saturday April 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. Prior to the event, there will be meetings every other Sunday to rehearse the opening number and practice walking and public speaking at the Liberty Fitness Center in Liberty NY.

At the dress exchange, SCIP will accept donations of dresses/gowns and business attire for contestants to use in the pageant. The current Mrs. Sullivan County International, Elizabeth Brown, came up with the idea, and will be managing it. Free hair and makeup will be provided by BOCES students the day of the pageant.

The cost to become a contestant is $75. Sponsors are sought. Portions of the proceeds will be going to St. Judes Cancer Research Hospital. Email sullivancoun typageant@yahoo.com or call 845/665-2080.
