'Le Grand Voyage’ at Sunday Night Cinema
November 3, 2011 —
HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance will present “Le Grand Voyage” as the November 6 entry in its Sunday Night Cinema Fall Series, starting at 7 p.m.
In this 2004 French-Moroccan production, a traditional Muslim father is driven on a pilgrimage to Mecca by his French-born, Europeanized son. As they meander across Europe in a decrepit car, father and son, who had previously avoided spending time together, gradually come to understand and appreciate one another. Writer and director Ismael Ferroukhi has said his goal was to tell a real-life story about Muslim protagonists while avoiding the usual clichés about the Muslim community.
The Sunday Night Cinema’s fall seriesentitled “Hit the Road: A Selection of Road Movies from around the Globe,” runs through November 20. Showings are at the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, 32 Commercial Street. A donation of $5 per person is suggested, to help support the activities of the Arts Alliance. The film will be preceded by a short introduction and followed by a discussion. Call 570/390-4420 or visit waynecountyartsalliance.org.
