LACKAWAXEN, NY — The National Park Service and the Zane Grey’s West Society will host the seventh annual Zane Grey Festival at the Zane Grey Museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 16. This year, the festival will also celebrate the Delaware River, which is the 2011 Pennsylvania River of the Year. The Lackawaxen and Delaware rivers, which fulfilled his love for fishing and the outdoors, are what initially drew Grey to the area. Zane and his brother Romer would eventually settle in Lackawaxen and call the area home. left

Exhibits in the Zane Grey Museum give viewers a better understanding of the life and writing of the famed Western author. His office and study has been meticulously recreated based on an interior photograph by renowned photographer Louis Hensel.

For the festival, the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River’s Junior Ranger Activity Book will be on hand for children to complete. Children can try on the National Park Service uniform and have their picture taken as a park ranger. Dr. Stephen “Doc” Miller and his son will be talking about what it was like to work out on the range in the West, as well as entertaining all ages with magic tricks.

A member of the Kuhn family will explain and demonstrate how his great-great-grandfather built the Zane Grey House. There will be a scavenger hunt, music by the Steamtown Ramblers, vintage cars, demonstrations of cattle roping, how to cast a fishing rod and more.

Area environmental groups and historical societies will display exhibits about their organizations, many of which will have hands-on activities for children.
