NARROWSBURG, NY — “I have always been intrigued by the happenstance of weathered surfaces and organic textures and patterns,” said fiber artist Kathy Grady, whose layered textile work will be featured in the exhibition titled “Stratum,” opening with a reception at Alliance Gallery on Friday, July 1 from 7 to 9 p.m..

Grady creates surface designs on fabric using dyes, silkscreen and thermofax screens to print graphic images. She also employs layering and stitching fabric. Grady is inspired as much by nature as by torn posters and dilapidated buildings.

Grady currently lives in Narrowsburg, and uses fiber arts in her work with disabled adults at The Center for Discovery and the College for Educational Enrichment at Sullivan County Community College.

“I see life as a series of overlapping layers; layers of experience, relationships, meaning and emotion,” she said. “With a mix of planning, happy surprises and contemplation, the interplay of the fabrics, prints and colors define the final images. For me, these compositions reflect the complex layers of our lives.”

Free and open to the public, the exhibit is sponsored by the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, the Arts Council for Sullivan County, NY, and is made possible with public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts.
