Readings of ‘Bad Church, Good Church’

May 19, 2011

HONESDALE, PA — Local author Tom Kane, a reporter with The River Reporter, will hold two readings and signings for his new book, “Bad Church Good Church: A Memoir of a Former Catholic Priest” in coming weeks. The first will be held on Friday, May 27 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce Community Room on Commercial Street in Honesdale. The second will be held on Friday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance, second floor, on Main Street in Narrowsburg, NY.

The memoir is the story of Kane’s life beginning with the Great Depression in an Irish-Catholic neighborhood in Philadelphia, and taking the reader up to the present. Besides being the story of his struggle with the Catholic Church leadership, it relates his inner journey of discovery of himself, his conscience and his awareness of who he is. It is also the journey of his discovery that spirituality is not the same thing as religion.

Kane spent 11 years in the seminary in preparation and 10 years as a priest/teacher/counselor, teaching English in high schools in Philadelphia, Brooklyn and as an assistant professor at St. John’s University in Queens, NY. Visit www.tomkanesblog.com.
