CALLICOON, NY — Callicoon Fine Arts at 27 Lower Main Street will hold an opening reception for an exhibit of the works of Carol Hepper and a single-channel video projection by Trisha Baga on Saturday, April 15 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Hepper exhibit, titled “Strong Language,” includes a new photographic collage and revisits a series of artworks she completed between 1989 and 1994, intimately scaled assemblages made from tanned deer and elk hides stretched over found objects. The translucent hides hold the objects firmly against a flat support. While the works resemble paintings in their format and in their use of color and texture, they spring from the wall as sculptural reliefs. Their physicality results not only from their technique of assembly but also from the works’ resemblance to aspects of the human form.

The special project by Baga, on exhibit in project room, is a film based on a basic cinematic trope: capturing the blur of the passing landscape through the window of a moving train. She alters the footage by first overlaying the outlines of a floral wallpaper pattern and then attaching a reversed edit of the footage to the original.

The exhibition runs through May 14.
