Sullivan County and the Civil War

HURLEYVILLE, NY — The Sullivan County Museum in Hurleyville presents “Sullivan County and the Civil War” on Sunday, April 10. There will be displays and re-enactors from the the New York State 143rd and the 156th Regiments of Volunteers of the Civil War. Eileen Kalter, Richard Chiger and Sally Gladden from the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop will share letters written by soldiers and citizens during the Civil War. Also, Nick Ost and Matthew Boswell will present a staged reading of an originial Civil War one-act play entitled “Time Out” written by Sally Gladden. The presentation of colors will take place.

Featured will be the opening of the Civil War Room, displaying equipment, medical exhibits and an in-house encampment along with other Civil War memorabilia. Refreshments will be served followed by a 4:30 p.m. showing of the movie “The Red Badge of Courage” based on the famous Stephen Crane book set during the American Civil War years. There is no charge, but donations are appreciated. Call 845/434-8044.
