Eisenberg to headline at Nutshell

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — Ophira Eisenberg will headline The Laugh Tour at The Nutshell on Saturday, July 14, starting with a 7 p.m. mixer and 8 p.m. show. Eisenberg has appeared on Comedy Central, NPR, VH1, E! Channel and Oxygen. She was recently profiled in The New York Times, and selected as one of New York Magazine’s Top 10 Comics that “Funny People Find Funny.” Also performing will be Frank Liotti of “Law And Order,” Laughing Skull, Boston Comedy Festival, LA Comedy Festival and BearCity2, and guest Alex Barnett, winner of 12th Annual Gilda’s Club Laugh-Off, Huffington Post.

The Laugh Tour is hosted by Rich Kiamco of The Howard Stern Show, Sirius XM, Queer Eye and WE-tv.

Star Quest, Truck Petting Zoo at the library

HONESDALE, PA — Whether you can make it to the library or not, families looking for summer fun ideas for children ages three through eight can check out its Star Quest program. Each week the library will post a Quest for kids and additional activities and ideas on the theme for that week. Parents can help their children with the Quests and children can share by bringing pages to post on the library bulletin board or by having their parents post their answers on

Facebook or on the Star Quest blog.

On Tuesday, July 17, there will be a Truck Petting Zoo for kids and families from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on 14th Street. Bring the kids and explore 14 different kinds of trucks. There is no charge for the petting zoo, and there will be hot dogs, popcorn and drinks for sale.

Vintage costume jewelry trunk shows

MILFORD, PA — The Vintage Fashion Costume Jewelry (VFCJ) Club NJ/METRO Chapter will host three vintage costume jewelry trunk shows this summer on Fridays, July 13, July 27, and August 3 at Mt. Haven Resort, 123 Log Tavern Rd. The show will take place rain or shine under the covered pavilion. Club members will display jewelry designs from the famous jewelry houses of the 1900s. Necklaces, brooches, bracelets, rings and earrings from top name manufacturers, associated with such names as Miriam Haskell, Hobe and Weiss, will be available.

Civil War train wreck commemorated

BARRYVILLE, NY — The Col. Ellis Camp 124 of the Sons of Union Veterans will hold an observance honoring the Union soldiers killed in the tragedy of 1864 on Sunday, July 15 at 1:30 p.m. at the old Congregational Church on Route 97. In that year, a westbound train headed for the Civil War prison camp at Elmira collided with an eastbound coal train near the Town of Shohola, PA.

As descendants of Union Veterans, “we owe this to our ancestors who fought to save the nation,” said Camp 124 Past Camp Commander Michael S. Bennett of White Plains. “Our projects to honor our ancestors are a part of who we are, where we can be found and what we are doing.”

At the ceremony, the graves of all veterans will be decorated. The history of the wreck will be retold by Pike County Historian, author, and Shohola Train Wreck researcher George Fluhr, and then participants will be led on a tour to the exact site of the wreck. Comfortable walking shoes and casual attire are suggested for the “off-trail” hike to the wreck site.

Make a movie at the museum

CUDDEBACKVILLE, NY — Make your own summer blockbuster at the Neversink Valley Museum, 26 Hoag Rd. Kids ages 10 to 14 will learn how to create a movie using a smartphone or an iPad during two sessions held on July 16 to 20 or August 13 to 17, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The fee for each session is $100 for museum members, $125 for non-museum members, which includes a one-year membership.

The museum will take participants through the entire process of what goes into making a short movie, using a smartphone/iPad as the camera. Learn how to develop characters, write a script, draw up a storyboard and set up shots, shoot the movie and more. On the last day of camp, there will be a festival potluck picnic. Participants will also discover Orange County’s early film days, when D.W. Griffith came to Cuddebackville to shoot some pre-Hollywood classics.
