NARROWSBURG, NY — Accomplished jazz pianist Joe Vincent Tranchina will perform a solo concert at the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance on Saturday, January 28 at 2 p.m. An audience Q&A and reception will follow.
This will be the first jazz concert played on DVAA’s recently inaugurated 1913 Mason & Hamlin grand piano. The free event will take place in the Krause Recital Hall at the Delaware Arts Center, 37 Main St.

Voted Hudson Valley 2010 Jazz Musician of the Year in the Times Herald-Record’s annual Best Of readers’ poll, Tranchina has been seen in most of the major jazz and club venues throughout New York City and the surrounding area, including Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola (Jazz at Lincoln Center), Birdland, the Oak Room and the Blue Note. He has also performed at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.
The composer, and occasional lyricist, of over 1,000 compositions, Tranchina’s work ranges from straight-ahead, fusion, and Brazilian jazz to new age, world beat, pop and classical.

The performance at DVAA will include interpretations of standards like “Gee Baby Ain’t I Good to You,” “Like Someone in Love,” and “Out of This World,” along with a mashup of Paul McCartney’s “Yesterday” and Jerome Kern and Otto Harbach’s “Yesterdays.” Tranchina will also play several of his original compositions: “Conundrum,” “Entropy” and “Lilith.”

This is the second of six events in DVAA’s winter Salon Series, fostering cultural events in an intimate setting followed by lively discussion. DVAA’s Salon Series continues throughout the winter with “Off the Shelf” literary event (February 11), “Bring on the Thaw” poetry reading (February 25), “Shakespeare Songs” performance and talk (March 11), and the second annual Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon (March 18).
