SHOHOLA, PA — The Barryville Area Arts Association is celebrating all things Irish at their “Forty Shades of Green” Event on March 3 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Artists’ Market Community Center, 114 Richardson Ave. The event will include a historical exhibit that traces the history of Irish art from its origins—stone carvings circa 3,200 BC, called “petroglyphs.”

For such a small island, Ireland has made a huge contribution to the arts; e.g., Dublin is the birthplace of more Nobel Prize winners in literature than any other city. (In case you’re counting, that’s William Butler Yeats, George Bernard Shaw and Samuel Beckett.)

“Feel free to join us in traditional Irish garb, or even dressed as a Leprechaun,” said event coordinator Nick Roes. There will be live music courtesy of “The Irish Songbird,” Mef Gannon. There’s also a group art exhibit where more than a dozen local artists and artisans will be showing off their shades of green. The exhibit runs through March 14.
