Another Oscar contender: ‘Manchester by the Sea’

CALLICOON, NY — Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) and the Callicoon Theater present Kenneth Lonergan’s “Manchester by the Sea,” starring Casey Affleck and Michelle Williams, as the next in the CineArt series, from Friday, February 10 to Monday, February 20. Both actors, as well as the film and the director, are nominated for Academy Awards. The film will screen at 7:30 p.m., plus 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday and Sunday. The theater is closed Tuesday through Thursday.

Lee Chandler (Affleck) is a brooding, irritable loner who works as a handyman for a Boston apartment block. One damp winter day he gets a call telling him his brother’s heart has given out suddenly, and he’s been named guardian to his 16-year-old nephew (Lucas Hedges). Doubts about raising a teenager together with his return to the past and his ex-wife (Michelle Williams) re-open an unspeakable tragedy.

Rolling Stone says, “It may be the best film you see this year.”

CineArt is a partnership between DVAA and the Callicoon Theater. A percentage of the profits and $1 per person from ticket sales benefit the programs and services of DVAA.
