A trip to the gun range

The first thing I notice when I pull into Red’s is the group of high school kids milling around in the parking lot. I’m transported back to my own days of loitering around Cinema 6 in Honesdale, PA. Big main difference? Red’s is an indoor gun range outside Austin, Texas.  Read more

HAWLEY, PA — Harmony Presents hosts two events this weekend in the Boiler Room at the Hawley Silk Mill. Comedians Chris Lamberth and Pheobe Robinson perform at Final Friday Comedy Night on March 28 at 7:30 p.m. Their combined experience includes sharing the stage with national headliners including Bill Burr, Louis C.K. and Chris Hardwick; writing for MTV’s “Girl Code;” and placing in national comedy festivals.  Read more

‘An Iliad’ reading

Farm buildings in black & white

LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — An opening reception for “Saved by the Camera: Functional Farm Buildings from the Past,” an exhibition of barn and farm building photographs by LaVerne Black, will be held at Morgan Outdoors on Saturday, March 29 from 2 to 3 p.m. The exhibit is a sampling from two projects undertaken by Black and Town of Neversink Historian Carol Smythe. “Many times I have returned again to a favorite barn or old abandoned house,” said Black, “finding some had either been removed or fallen to the ravages of time and neglect.  Read more

‘Once Upon a Mattress’ at Monticello High School

MONTICELLO, NY — Monticello High School presents the musical, “Once Upon A Mattress,” a comical twist on the fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea.” Performances are at the Arnold Packer Hughs Auditorium in Monticello High School on Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. This all-student production show is appropriate for all ages. Tickets cost $5 for adults, $3 for students.

Oil paintings at The River Gallery

NARROWSBURG, NY — The River Gallery-The Art of Living, 8 Main St., launches its 2014 season with an opening reception for “Country Views, Catskill Landscapes” by Jay Brooks on Saturday, March 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibit features realistic renderings of landscapes in oil and is on display until May 17.  Read more
