Cooking classes at Woodloch

HAWLEY, PA — Local area seniors from Honesdale, Hamlin and Hawley enjoyed a special holiday cooking class at Woodloch Resort on Monday, December 16. With the assistance of Avery Transportation of Beach Lake, dozens of seniors were picked up and brought via coach to Woodloch. There, Chef Dave Nordenhold and social director Joey Ranner shared recipes, cooking tips and lots of laughs.  Read more

Christmas at the Honesdale Senior Center

HONESDALE, PA — Marie Crocker, Freda Avery and Anna Carstairs were among more than 100 seniors who enjoyed a Christmas dinner at the Honesdale Senior Center in December. Pre-dinner ente4rtianment was by the “Silver Belles.” The center is open for activities and for lunch (cost $2 for lunch) Mondays through Fridays except holidays. BOCES culinary students spread joy

LIBERTY – On December 18, the Culinary Arts students from the Career and Technical Education Center at BOCES took time from their studies to spread holiday cheer to community members who reside at Achieve Rehab and Nursing Facility. Each student delivered a homemade dough ornament. This simple act of holiday spirit put smiles on faces of everyone.  Read more

Extension holds workshop for family caregivers

LIBERTY, NY — A free family caregiver workshop, “Self-Care through the Healing Power of Gratitude,” is slated for Tuesday, January 14 from 2 to 3 p.m. at Cornell Cooperative Extension’s (CCE) Gerald J. Pilot program turns Christmas trees into mulch

MONTICELLO, NY — The Village of Monticello Department of Public Works (DPW) will provide curbside pickup and recycling of Christmas trees through a new pilot program in partnership with Sullivan Renaissance. Christmas trees left at the curb within the village limits through the month of January will be picked up by the DPW and brought to DeHoyos Park to be chipped. All decorations, lights and stands must be removed before recycling.  Read more


As Emily and I drove back to the city from my Aunt Sharon’s house, with bellies full of Christmas dinner, my eyes filled unexpectedly with tears. It was difficult to put my finger on what caused this emotional outburst since it had been a great day of exchanging presents, eating delicious food and hanging out with my family. I keep insisting that I’m not making New Year’s resolutions, but truth be told, I always do. Whether those resolutions stick remains to be seen, but I suppose there’s nothing wrong with trying. Arts alliance hosts Founders Show

HONESDALE, PA — To honor the founders of the Wayne County Arts Alliance (WCAA), the organization’s gallery will host a Founders' Show, January 4 through 25 with an opening reception on Saturday, January 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. The founding members are: Pauline Glykokokalos, Yanni Glykokokalos, Joan Hill, the late Robert Lander, Anne Nocera and Katrin Tralongo.  Read more
