Jane Blake and Carolyn Duke 'Color'

Jane Blake’s highly saturated silk paintings will be exhibited side-by-side with the lustrous Raku ceramics of Carolyn Duke in a show titled “Color," which will open with a reception on Friday, September 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Alliance Gallery at the Delaware Arts Center in Narrowsburg. State police make arrests in Narrowsburg thefts

On August 23, 2013 State Police at Liberty received reports from fifteen separate victims in and around the Narrowsburg area that personal items had been stolen from their parked vehicles during pre-dawn hours. Items reported stolen included Ipods, wallets, credit cards, currency, GPS units, a .380 caliber pistol, and numerous other personal effects.  Read more

Heron duo at Lackawaxen

Herons in our region can be found just about anywhere there is water. Lakes, ponds and rivers all have the potential of providing good habitat for herons as well as other aquatic bird species. Herons are hunters, and their diet consists mostly of fish, with some amphibians, insects and even small mammals rounding out the fare. Herons are somewhat shy of humans and will fly off if approached too closely by persons on foot, or in watercraft.  Read more

Varden Conservation Day

VARDEN, PA — The Friends of Varden Conservation Area will host the fourth annual Varden Conservation Day on Saturday, September 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. (rain or shine). At 11 a.m. Pocono Wildlife Rehab Center will make a presentation with live animals.

The day’s other events include guided hikes, a children’s fishing tournament, displays by local organizations, food, live music, homemade ice cream and prizes.

Become a community tree steward

LIBERTY, NY — Volunteers wishing to improve their communities and parks by caring for trees have an opportunity to receive a structured, two-day training and enjoy camaraderie among other like-minded adults. By popular demand, a unique, 10-hour Community Tree Steward course is offered for $25 by Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) Sullivan County on Tuesday, September 17, and Wednesday, September 18. Each class will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gerald J. Skoda Extension Education Center on 64 Ferndale-Loomis Rd. in Liberty.  Read more

Kayak course offered at Promised Land

GREENTOWN, PA — Promised Land State Park will hold a kayak instructional course with Northeast PA Kayak School on Thursday, September 12 at Promised Land Lake. There are two sessions: 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.; only register for one session as they are both the same. The course is called “Skill-building on the Water Level II: Kayak Paddling Course.”  Read more
