Berlin Township Fireman’s Field Day and pig roast

Back to school

The students stare back at me blankly. I wonder if they are paying attention.

“Who knows the difference between overwrite and splice in?”

A few of them nod. One yawns long and large but then surprisingly raises his hand and answers the question. I guess you can’t blame them; it is a three-hour class on a Monday night.

It wasn’t too long ago that the tables were turned and I was a student sitting far back in the computer lab in an NYU editing class. I’m sure there were times I yawned, probably much worse.  Read more

Rotary to host inaugural spirits and beer tasting fundraiser

BETHEL, NY — Liberty Rotary Club will hold its inaugural spirit and beer tasting fundraiser to benefit the club’s scholarship fund on Saturday, September 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Catskill Distillery at the Dancing Cat Saloon. Three spirits distilled on the premises at distillery will be featured, as well as four unique beers to be tasted, plus Trout Town American Amber Ale presented by the Roscoe Beer Company. Learn how to ‘pin’

PORT JERVIS, NY — The first session of a three-part workshop titled “Introduction to Pinterest and Paper Crafting” will be held on Tuesday, September 24 from 6:15 to 7:45 p.m. in The Hub at the Port Jervis library. Part I will guide you through setting up and using your own virtual pin board, and help you find an inspiration for the following week’s paper crafting project. In parts II and III, you will convert your inspiration into useable, seasonally themed greeting cards (Hands on classes: October 1 and December 10).  Read more

Denning Day: An Afternoon of History

GRAHAMSVILLE, NY — “Denning Day: An Afternoon of History” will be held on Sunday, September 22 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Community Room of the Daniel Pierce Library. The Time and the Valleys Museum will share information from its archives on the history of the Town of Denning in Ulster County.

Town of Denning residents will share oral histories from and information about life along the Upper Neversink and the Upper Rondout. A newly donated collection of unusual items from the Herbert and Esther George estate in Sundown will be shown.  Read more
