Old Time Fair set for Grahamsville

GRAHAMSVILLE, NY — The Old Time Fair & BBQ will be held rain or shine on Saturday, July 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Grahamsville Fairgrounds on State Route 55.

Sponsored by the Time and the Valleys Museum, the fair includes old-fashioned activities such as corn shucking and skillet throwing contests, children’s games, hand-cranked ice cream making demonstration and tasting, pie auction with emcee Barry Lewis, food and music, fly tying and casting demonstrations, local history exhibits and spinning, quilting and blacksmithing demonstrations.  Read more

The Weather Project workshops

HIGHLAND LAKE, NY — Creativity workshops and stilt-walking classes are offered at NACL Theatre every Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Classes are free and open to all.

The NACL issues a call to artists of all disciplines to consider sharing their skill at a Monday creativity workshop. Workshops will be held in stilt-walking, writing, music, dance research, acting, design, art and singing. Call 845/557-0694.

HONESDALE, PA — Moody Road Studios will present “Writers in Conversation,” book readings at Maude Alley on Saturday, July 27 at 7 p.m. There will be a wine and cheese welcome in the garden and a chance to meet the writers from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., and a book signing after the reading.

The featured readings are by Amy Brill, author of “The Movement of Stars;” Nina Burleigh, the author of “The Fatal Gift of Beauty;” and Ethan Hauser, the author of “The Measures Between Us.”

Contra dance at The Cooperage

HONESDALE, PA —The Cooperage at 1030 Main Street will hold an open electric jam on Wednesday, July 31 from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. This electric jam is hosted by Ron Milke. Along came a spider

I’m one of those guys who makes lists. Even with a calendar on my computer, a day runner, and a “Carnet De Journaliste” (reporter’s notebook—no clue why it’s in French on the cover), my house is littered with scraps of paper. Being an arachnophobe (fear of spiders), I try to keep the paper down to a minimum (where the creepy-crawlies tend to lurk), instead using Post-its® stuck to the mirror (one place I am guaranteed to look). With all that, one would think I’d know where I’m going, but there are always twists, turns and unexpected road blocks along the way.  Read more
