Abstract/surrealist art show

LORDS VALLEY, PA — A collection of works titled “Coloration” by abstract/surrealist artist Doug Gilbert, will be exhibited at The Gallery at Chant Realtors during June. Gilbert’s abstract and surrealist paintings are done on paper, canvas or wood. The opens with a meet-the-artist reception on Saturday, June 1 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The show runs through June 29, open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 570/775-7337.

Milford Music in the Park concert series begins

Let freedom ring

National holidays are a mixed bag for me. On one hand, parties, barbeques and parades spring up and a festive air hangs over the Upper Delaware Valley as folks frolic, thrilled to have a three-day weekend. On the other, I invariably have to work. Don’t get me wrong, I love what I do, and more often than not my job involves attending parties, barbeques and parades. Thankfully, it’s not exactly brain surgery, so I have a lot to be grateful for. William H. Gregg

William H. Gregg of Damascus, PA, a retired carpenter for the Villa Roma Resort, died Thursday May 23, 2013 in Damascus. He was 74.

Funeral services were held at the Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, 34 Upper Main Street, Callicoon, NY.

Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Galilee, PA. Memorial contributions can be made to the Damascus Township Ambulance Corps, PO Box 63, Damascus, PA 18415, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Dr. David Sager terminated: why?

On May 15, 2013, Dr. David Sager was terminated from his position as the deputy commissioner of the Sullivan County Department of Family Services (DFS). He was given no warning or explanation—just a letter from DFS Commissioner Randy Parker telling him to collect his belongings and leave.

In recent months, news outlets, employees and taxpayers have cheered Sager and Parker for streamlined procedures, client support and cost-savings at DFS.  Read more

Foodstock’s delicious results

WJFF’s Foodstock Fine Food & Wine Festival on Saturday, May 11, was a huge success.

More than 50 vendors set up their booths inside the tennis courts at the Villa Roma and nearly 400 guests walked through the doors, enjoying samples and tastes of all kinds of delicious goodies.

The entire event was made possible thanks to the Villa Roma, to WJFF staff, to an enormous army of dedicated WJFF volunteers and to our Foodstock guests.  Read more
