Warbler watch in woodland

DELAWARE STATE FOREST, PA — The Pike/Monroe Woodland Owners Group Program will hold an outing on Saturday, May 18 in Delaware State Forest.

The program will focus on Golden Winged Warbler habitat, which is disappearing, and on early successional forest management. Learn about how to create this habitat on your property and how to seek out federal funding to help with the process. Bring binoculars. Frog Slog at Varden Conservation Area

VARDEN, PA — Varden Conservation Area (VCA) will hold a “frog slog,” one of the area’s environmental education programs, on Thursday, May 23 at 5:30 p.m. starting at the pavilion at the Tannery Access. Join Carissa Longo, environmental education specialist, on a hunt for frogs and salamanders at wetland locations in VCA.

Hopefully, we’ll catch sight of the amazing spotted salamander, find eggs and maybe find some fairy shrimp. The program will start under the pavilion with an introduction to amphibian identification and frog calls. Dress to get muddy and wear waders or water shoes.  Read more

Wayne County Historical Society holds yard sale

WHITE MILLS, PA — The Wayne County Historical Society (WCHS) will hold a benefit yard sale on Saturday, May 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lock 31 House, Rt. 6. All proceeds go to benefit the WCHS and its programs.

They are looking for donations of clean and lightly used household items. Drop- off times for items are May 18 from 10 to 2 p.m., May 22 from 4 to 6 p.m., May 23 from 4 to 6 p.m., and May 24 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Student art show and sale at UpFront Exhibition Space

PORT JERVIS, NY — The Port Jervis Council for the Arts is sponsoring the Port Jervis High School (PJHS) student art show and sale at Upfront Exhibition Space on Saturday, May 18, from 6 to 9 p.m.

PJHS art teachers Bess Moran, Eleanor Horst, Ashley Kaufmann, and tech teachers Kyle Hyziak and Tracy West-Barnes, have inspired and challenged students to explore and create new forms of self-expressive art through a variety of mediums and techniques.  Read more

Liberty Free Theatre on the move with ‘Kind Of Kin’

LIBERTY, NY — The Liberty Free Theatre will inaugurate its ninth season with a free reading and book signing of “Kind of Kin” by author Rilla Askew at the Liberty Museum & Arts Center on May 24 at 7 p.m. The audience is invited to gather after the performance for food, drink and a book signing.
