Walk to combat juvenile arthritis

Those who will take part in the 2013 Hudson Valley Arthritis Walk will be walking in part for two local children, Jailyn and Sami, Eldred Central School students who were identified only by their first names. Both of these young girls have been waging a war against juvenile arthritis from an early age. Juvenile arthritis is a disease of the immune system, which causes this normal defense system to attack its own cells and tissues. There are 300,000 children in the U.S. who suffer from the debilitating disease.  Read more

Body recovered from Lake Wallenpaupak

LAKE WALLENPAUPAK, PA — A body was recovered when it floated to the surface of Lake Wallenpaupak on April 22. It was identified by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission as Jeffrey Carl Kochis, 33, from Jefferson Township in Lackawanna County.  Read more

Dad, sons arrested on weapons charges

Eric Ivan, 48, and his sons Conner, 25, and Dustin, 26, all of whom live on Edward Avenue in Monticello, have been arrested on multiple weapons charges.  Read more

May is Water Safety Month

Child Abuse Prevention Month

REGION — “The symbol of child abuse prevention is the pinwheel, and so there are 1,514 pinwheels outside to represent the number of calls that we received for potential child abuse and neglect in Sullivan County last year.”

That was Dr. David Sager, deputy commissioner of the county Department of Family Services, addressing the county legislature on April 19, and informing them that April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Read more
