HONESDALE, PA — The Liberto Trio will perform in concert on Saturday, April 6 at 7 p.m. at The Cooperage. Featuring a sound rooted in the jazz tradition while branching out and exploring new, uncharted territories, the group includes Ralph Liberto on saxophone, Steve Faubel on piano, Bob Wilson on bass and Steve Kurilla on drums.

MILFORD, PA — Pike County Arts and Crafts announces the first “First Sunday Art Demonstration” of the season with Cynthia Harris-Pagano painting a still life in oil on Sunday, April 7 at the Milford Borough Hall at 1:30 p.m. The public is invited to this free event to learn about the process and techniques of making art, and to meet Harris-Pagano. PORT JERVIS, NY — A series of eight music classes for beginners on “How to Play the Fife” begins on Friday, April 5 at 4:30 p.m. in the Community Room in the basement of the Port Jervis Free Library. The class will be taught by Patti Gessner, a music instructor who frequently plays the fife with the Broome Street Fife and Drum Corps. The class, open to ages 12 to 80, will combine a combination of classroom instruction and a bit of field marching. Training fifes will be provided for the class. The fee is $16 for the entire course. BETHEL, NY — Mike Mizwinski from MiZ performs solo at the Dancing Cat Saloon on Friday, March 29 at 7 p.m. Singer/songwriter/guitarist Mizwinski, who gives name to the band MiZ as well as his solo work, is a rock-Americana artist from Northeast Pennsylvania. Known as an acoustic and electric guitar virtuoso, his songs evoke the rustic tones and imagery you would expect from the PA coal-mining region and its cultural heritage. Read more
Finally, spring is in the air. Despite the somewhat frigid temps and occasional snow showers, the undeniable signs of seasonal change are everywhere. Although I’ve yet to have a sighting, friends and neighbors have been spotting robins throughout the Upper Delaware Valley and the icicles on my roof are slowly beating a retreat. Making a mental note to ignore the groundhog next year, I attempted to brush the wonder dog, whose fur coat was out of control, and threw my hands up, frustrated over the snarls and knots that had taken her hostage over the harsh winter months. PORT JERVIS, NY — It’s not often that ballet students get the opportunity to be taught by a professional dancer. On Saturday, March 23, students of all ages at The Dance Center in Port Jervis got that chance.
The dancer who came to teach is as unique as they come. He is Philip Martin-Nielson, the youngest and newest member of the company Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo. Trockadero is an all-male comedy ballet troupe that dances both the male and female roles, requiring the men to dance en pointe. Read more
Charles Curtis Bendle
Charles Curtis Bendle of Jeffersonville, NY, owner of Charlie’s Auto Works and a lifetime resident, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, after a brief illness in Florida. He was 64.
Services were held Monday, March 25 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Jeffersonville, NY, with Ginny Bossley officiating. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Youngsville, NY.
