Stephan Schick sworn in as judge

At a gathering of members of the Sullivan County legal profession, along with politicians, business people and assorted movers and shakers, Stephan Schick, who served as the executive director of Sullivan County Legal Aid and was a legals aid attorney for nearly 30 years, was sworn in as a New York State Supreme Court Justice for the Third Judicial District, which serves Sullivan County as well as Ulster, Green, Albany, Schoharie, Rensselaer and Columbia.  Read more

Professional Women of Sullivan County meeting

The Professional Women of Sullivan County will be holding their next meeting at the White Sulphur Springs Restaurant, networking at 6pm, followed by dinner at 6:30pm. The speaker will be Beverly Paige, and the topic is Conquering Clutter. Dinner choices will be chicken noodle soup or salad, filet of salmon with dill sauce, chicken Kiev with wild rice, or pasta primavera. Rolls and butter, veggies, dessert and coffee/tea will be served. The cost including tax and tip is $22. All are invited (including men). First Friday musical gatherings at the Calder Cafe in the Equinunk Historical Society's annex, doors open at 6:30pm, live music 7:15pm. Light refreshments are available for sale. The Calder Cafe is located at 1972 Pine Mill Rd., at the junction of Hancock Highway (Rte. 191) and Pine Mill Rd. in the center of Equinunk.

Winter storm warning, Sullivan County offices on normal business hours

Monticello, NY:

Sullivan County Manager David Fanslau issued the following statement: "All County Government Offices in Sullivan County will open today for normal business hours. The Commissioner of Public Safety and the Deputy Commissioner of Public Works have reported that all County roads have been treated, and that DPW is presently heading out with another round of salt.

Residents, visitors, and employees are urged to drive with caution, allowing extra travel time to arrive safely at their destination."  Read more

Tannenbaum is also the German translation for a fir tree, a very popular conifer to have indoors as the traditional Christmas tree. The patient survived

As I write this column, I find myself housebound. My right knee is sore and aching. This is the result of having knee surgery to correct the severe arthritis in that joint. While the nurses at both Baylor Hospital and the Continuum Rehabilitation Hospital took excellent care of me, I am glad to be sleeping in my own bed once again. On the 12th of December, my surgeon, Dr. Pat Peters, removed the staples from the wound. He assured me that I appeared to be on the road to full recovery. It will take weeks of rehabilitation before I reach that goal.  Read more
