Sullivan County roads closed

From Sullivan County Manage David Fanslau:

Sullivan County travel restrictions that were issued at 9:00 PM Monday night remain in place. There are numerous roads that are blocked with fallen trees and wires, and public works crews will be addressing road closures throughout the day. In many cases, public work crews will need to work jointly with utilities crews to ensure power is off to wires down with trees.

About 30,000 locations throughout Sullivan County remain without power. Prolonged power outages will last several days.  Read more

Help storm-damaged trees recover from Hurricane Sandy

The trail of damages after major storms such as Hurricane Sandy truly reveals the power of Mother Nature, and the remains can be devastating, especially for trees. Unprotected, trees are vulnerable to the storm's wrath, and the wounds might look fatal. However, even though major branches may be broken, foliage might be shredded, or the bark may be torn and gouged, trees have an amazing ability to recover from even the most severe cases. Wayne emergency declaration

The Wayne County Commissioners executed a Declaration of Disaster Emergency at 2:00 p.m. today to allow Wayne County Emergency Management Coordinator to coordinate the activities of the emergency response and to take all appropriate action needed to alleviate the affects of this disaster.  Read more

NYSEG: power outages could last for days

Sustained 40-mile-per-hour winds and gusts of 60 miles per hour or more from the remnants of Hurricane Sandy are likely to cause serious damage to NYSEG’s electricity delivery system, leaving some customers without power for many days. The only question now is exactly where the damage and outages will occur.

At 3:30 pm NYSEG reported 312 customers without power in Sullivan County, 61 in Ulster and 118 in Delaware.  Read more

Important notice for agriculture sector regarding Hurricane Sandy

ITHACA, N.Y. – Cornell Cooperative Extension urges all farmers to prepare ahead of time for power outages, structural or crop damage, insurance claims and damage that could accompany Hurricane Sandy, also dubbed “Frankenstorm” and the “Perfect Storm.” The New York State Office of Emergency Management is already warning citizens of Sandy’s approach, and New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets urges farmers to pay close attention to those warnings.  Read more

Bridges between PA & NJ remain open as of 1 pm Monday

NEW HOPE, PA – The 18 vehicular bridges owned and operated by the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission between Pennsylvania and New Jersey remained open to
