Eldred Key Elements releases CD

The title says it all: “We Made This Ourselves.” In a real-life, local version of the hit television show “Glee,” 23 Eldred Central School (ECS) students under the direction of their teacher, Justin Glodich, have completed their goal of producing their own CD.

The eighth- through 12th-grade students are members of the a cappella group the Eldred Key Elements. Last year, the group delivered a stirring performance for the ECS board of education.  Read more

‘Selected Works’ by Gloria Bernstein

HASBROUCK, NY — Local artist Gloria Bernstein will present “Selected Works” in an October exhibition at the Old Stone House of Hasbrouck at 282 Hasbrouck Rd.

The exhibition opens with a public reception on Saturday, October 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. Thereafter, the show is open on Saturdays and Sundays, 1 to 4 p.m., through October 28.

Tusten Theatre fall concert series begins with Catherine Russell

NARROWSBURG, NY — The Tusten Theatre starts its fall season by welcoming jazz and blues vocalist Catherine Russell with pianist Mark Shane on October 6, at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $27.

A native New Yorker, Catherine Russell has toured the world performing and recording with Paul Simon, David Bowie, Cyndi Lauper, Levon Helm and Rosanne Cash, among others.

The rest of the season includes Delaware Valley Chamber Orchestra’s “Narrowsburg Music Day” on October 13 and John Hammond on October 20.

Reinventing the family farm; corn maze and country story

The sign in front of the old family farmhouse said the farm was established in 1866. It’s been through a number of reincarnations, for instance when, according to the farm’s website, “Timothy Cunningham changed the farm to growing sweet corn to sell directly to consumers. There was a roadside stand out on Route 17B where customers could stop to pick up dinner. This was in the days when you could leave a can on the table and trust people to leave their money if the grandkids had gotten tired of sitting out by the table and wanted a break.”  Read more

Local bands perform at The Nutshell

LAKE HUNTINGTON, NY — Collabonation Productions and The Nutshell Arts Center will host local jam funk act The Great Danes on October 5. Doors open at 8 p.m. and music starts at 9 p.m. The band features the rhythm brothers Murray: Joe on drums and Sean on bass, as well as the guitar duo of Rob Cahill and Miguel Gonzales.

Also playing is Dizzy Feast, rock and funk magicians comprising of vocalist/guitarist Shane Andrewski, drummer Kyle Hector and bassist Jacob Whispell.

Forestburgh man arrested in connection with heroin overdose deaths

The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Forestburgh man in connection with heroin sales in the Monticello area. Jason Bolden, 45, was taken into custody on Tuesday (10-2-12) in the parking lot of Burger King in Monticello after deputies observed him making a deal.  Read more
