On Sunday, August 19, 2012, the New York State Police received reports of an unknown person shooting at passing vehicles at the intersection of County Route 12 and County Route 37 in the town of Wawayanda. Troopers responded and interviewed two motorists who had their vehicles' side windows shattered as they drove past the intersection. A search of the area located a 13-year-old juvenile and the recovery of a BB gun. Read more
On Monday, August 20, 2012, the New York State Police arrested Robert A. Sammarco, age 49, of 56 Cottage Street, Middletown, New York, following a vehicle pursuit that began in the City of Middletown and ultimately ended on State Route 17 in the Town of Wallkill. Read more
I commend Supervisor Edward Sykes and the two board members who joined him for their decision to establish a commission to study the impact of gas drilling in the Town of Delaware. There are many specifically local questions to be answered. In particular, we need to examine economic impact more carefully than has so far been done. We hear about potential benefits, but the cost side of the equation has not been properly studied. I grew up in areas where extractive industries were dominant and I have examined their economics in my academic career. Read more
At the last meeting of the Upper Delaware Council (UDC), several town representatives evinced fear at the idea of the council joining the Coalition for the Delaware River Watershed (CDRW) (see “UDC not a joiner—for now” in the August 16 issue). The isolationism favored by these parties is ironic, given that rivers in general are a symbol of interconnectedness—and that the designated river corridor administered by the UDC is, in fact, ruled by a complex system of institutional interrelationships of varying geographic scope. On 08-13-12, at approx 5:43 pm, The Honesdale Borough Police arrested Michael Corsello, 41 from Lawrence Michigan, on a fugitive from justice warrant. According to Borough Police, they conducted a traffic stop on Church Street in Honesdale Borough for a traffic violation. Corsello was a passenger in the vehicle. Officers found that he was wanted for failure to pay child support, which was graded as a felony. Read more
The Honesdale Borough Police are investigating the theft of a motor vehicle from a residence on Vine Street. The victim reported that sometime between 10:00P.M. on 08/19/2012 and 08:15A.M., on 08/20/12, unknown person(s) stole her 4 door, 2002 Dodge Neon, red in color. The vehicle was unlocked with the keys left in it. The vehicle is bearing PA Registration # JBD3852.

On 08-14-12, The Honesdale Borough Police filed charges against Danielle Vanstone 24 from Honesdale, after officers were called to assist Wayne County Probation/Parole Officers on 08-10-12 at approx. 9:58 pm. According to Borough Police, drugs and related drug paraphernalia were discovered in Vanstone’s North Main Street apartment by Probation /Parole Officers. Charges of possession of a controlled substance and Possession of drug paraphernalia were filed at the Wayne County Courthouse.
