Court to decide junkyard fate; neighbors sue the town for zoning change
The question of whether board members in the Town of Liberty acted improperly when they changed the zoning from residential to industrial commercial will be settled by a judge. The land in question is about 39 acres, comprised of four parcels that are now a heavily forested mountain that sits on the border between the Town of Liberty and the Village of Liberty on Route 17. It has been the stated position of the Comprehensive Plan Committee of the Town of Callicoon that the survey taken three years ago does not provide enough information to determine whether the majority of the town is opposed to or in favor of gas drilling. Read more
Terraced river walk envisioned for Narrowsburg
If the proposed waterfront design goes forward the way the designers have envisioned, it would feature several overlooks, and a terraced walk on the property behind the stores on Main Street—but not entry to the Main Street stores from the back as had previously been envisioned. Read more

Man pleads guilty in theft of Eldred bank
On Wednesday June, 27, 2012, John Armbruster, 52, of Monticello plead guilty in Sullivan County Court to the February 17, 2012 robbery of the Eldred Branch of the First National Bank of Jeffersonville. Read more
Brooklyn Man Sentenced to 6 ½ years in Pub Bar Gang Assault
Sullivan County District Attorney Jim Farrell announced today that Tayong Jackson, 32, of Brooklyn, N.Y. was sentenced in Sullivan County Court to 6 ½ years in state prison and 5 years of post release supervision for his role in the gang assault and slashing of another man in a Liberty bar back in September of 2010. Ryder sentenced to 25 years in prison for Manslaughter
District Attorney Jim Farrell announced that Lars Ryder, age 23, of Monticello, N.Y. was sentenced to 25 years in state prison and 5 years of post release supervision for the homicide of Elizabeth Mucci, 31, of Monticello and Hankins, N.Y. Read more
Honesdale duo arrested for paycheck theft
On June 15th, 2012 Honesdale Borough Police officers investigated a theft of a paycheck from the mail. The victim, a Honesdale Borough resident, reported to officers that he did not receive his payroll check, in excess of $1,300, sent to him in the mail by his employer. After contacting his employer the victim was advised that the paycheck had been sent to him in the mail and it had been deposited at a bank located in Honesdale. Read more
