Bell tower auction

STERLING, PA — Antique tables, chairs, dishes and items from the old Sterling School are just some of the many things being auctioned off on June 9 at 9 a.m. at the Sterling United Methodist Church at 567 Sterling Road. It will be the first of a series of auctions to benefit projects at the church. It will benefit the renovations that were recently completed on the bell tower.

The church was founded in 1848 in Sterling Township. On the church grounds sits the church hall, which has had previous incarnations as the Sterling Grange Hall, the municipal building and the local school.  Read more

Concert is ‘An American Salute’

WOODBOURNE, NY — “An American Salute” is the theme of the annual spring concert of Sullivan County Community Chorus, which will be held on Sunday, June 10 at 3 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 6317 Route 42. Under the direction of conductor Kevin Giroux, the music’s themes will include our homegrown talents; our love of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness; our armed services; and a medley from “Les Miserables.”  Read more

Blues in Neversink

CUDDEBACKVILLE, NY—The Neversink Valley Museum of History and Innovation will host Eight Days of Blues at a summer benefit concert “Blues in the Back Yard” on Saturday, June 9, at 7 p.m.

Eight Days of Blues performs original and classic American roots blues infused with rock, funk, R&B and a dash of Latin. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets to the lawn behind the Leura Murray Center (the main building for the museum, 26 Hoag Rd.) The Friends of the Neversink Museum will provide cookout fare: hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks for a fee. Proceeds will benefit the museum.  Read more

Liberty Free presents ‘Shel’s Shorts’

LIBERTY, NY — The Liberty Free Theatre will present a second weekend of Shel’s Shorts, a series of one-act comedies by acclaimed playwright, composer, screenwriter, essayist, cartoonist and children’s author Shel Silverstein. Performances will be on Thursday, June 7 through Sunday, June 10. Showtime on Thursday through Saturday is 7:30 p.m., with a 3 p.m. show on Sunday. Call 845/292-3788. Arts & Crafts Fair

HAWLEY, PA — Hawley’s annual Arts & Crafts Fair will take place in Bingham Park on Saturday, June 9, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free, and crafters will be on hand from as close as Hawley, and as far away as New Jersey and New England. Time and the Valleys holds fundraising auction

GRAHAMSVILLE, NY — The Time and the Valleys Museum’s third annual fundraising Country Auction will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 9 at the Grahamsville Fairgrounds on St. Rt. 55. It will be held rain or shine, starting at 11 a.m. (viewing starts at 10 a.m.). There will be many donated items auctioned off to raise funds for the museum, including antiques such as furniture, equipment, household items, collectibles and local history books; and like-new items including gift items, glassware and artwork.  Read more

Confused about Dexter

After reading the glowing profile of Damascus Township Board Supervisor, Jeffrey Dexter, in the latest newsletter of the Upper Delaware Council, one would think Mr. Dexter a person of indisputable standards with the community and environmental concerns being his foremost priority. Excuse me, I’m confused: however can this possibly be the one and same Jeffrey Dexter who, along with other members of his Damascus Board of Supervisors, have signed leases for hydraulic fracturing, or fracking?  Read more
