Meet a cow; pick a flower

HONESDALE, PA — Calkins Creamery and Fox Hill Farm, two neighboring farms, will host joint tours on Saturday, June 30 and Saturday, July 21. Tours begin at 8 a.m. at Calkins Creamery, 288 Calkins Road, and will conclude at 1 p.m. at 297 Fox Hill Rd., following a catered lunch. Tickets cost $50 and include tours of both farms and lunch. Music and more in Central Park

HONESDALE, PA — The Independence Day celebration hosted by the Wayne County Creative Arts Council and The Greater Honesdale Partnership will begin at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 3 in Central Park. There will be free old-fashioned games with prizes for children as well as some new performers. Vendors with food and novelties will begin setting up at 5 p.m.  Read more

Maris Hearn concert features Magpie

CALLICOON, NY — The Friends of Maris Hearn will present the sixth annual Maris Hearn Life Celebration Concert at the Delaware Youth Center, on Saturday, June 30, at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m.

The evening will feature one of Maris’ all-time favorite artists in “An Evening with Magpie.” The concert is a benefit, all proceeds going to Damascus Citizens for Sustainability, Catskill Citizens for Safe Energy, and Catskill Mountainkeeper.  Read more

Savor the Arts at the Excelsior Mill

NEWEIDEN, NY — The Excelsior Mill at Neweiden will hold a Savor the Arts Dinner in the Mill to benefit the Delaware Valley Arts Alliance (DVAA) on Friday, July 7, at 6:30 p.m. RSVP by June 30 to kwjasper12@aol.com.

Art show benefits Byway

HANCOCK, NY — The organizers of the Catskill Valley Scenic Byway Initiative will hold an opening reception for an art exhibit at The Bakery, 167-169 East Front St., on Saturday June 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. Artworks will be on display for the month of July, and can be viewed Mondays 6:30 am to 3:30 pm, Thursday to Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Read more

First-run movies at the Rivoli

SOUTH FALLSBURG, NY — The Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop, owner of the historic 1923 Rivoli Theater on Main Street in South Fallsburg, has announced that first-run movies will return to the theater beginning on Friday, June 29, with “Madagascar: Escape to Africa.”

“We’re going to run movies all summer at times when we do not have a live event going on at the theater.” said workshop board nember Jackie Perito. Proceeds from the movie program will help fund the ongoing effort to restore the theater’s classic neon-and-stud-light marquee.  Read more

Independence Day events

HONESDALE, PA — Honesdale will hold its 2012 Fireworks Celebration on Tuesday, July 3, with a rain date of Friday, July 6. The show will start at approximately 9:15 p.m. Prior to the fireworks, the Wayne County Creative Arts Council will host a celebration in Central park beginning at 3:30 p.m. There will be live music, vendors games and more throughout the afternoon and evening. All the world’s a stage

With a bit of rest after last week’s whirlwind tour of the region, I was able to begin anew and zipped around the four corners, in search of entertainment. Having taken a lengthy hiatus from Rich Kiamco’s traveling Comedy Club (www.thelaughtour.com), I was newly excited to make my way to the Nutshell in Lake Huntington (www.nutshellarts.com ), which has become a monthly home for Manhattan’s up-and-coming comics, who often test new material on the (sometimes) unsuspecting audience that the tour attracts.  Read more
