Bethel Woods opening salvo explodes with excitement

Even though Donny and Marie were nowhere to be seen, I couldn’t help but conjure up their image as Bethel Woods' first trio of concerts was a little bit country... and a little bit rock and roll. Opening night attracted a sold-out crowd, anxious to catch headliners Lady Antebellum, who were waiting in the wings as husband and wife country duo Keifer Thompson and Shawna Thompson, (AKA Thompson Square) warmed up the crowd.  Read more

Theatre Beat: “Guys and Dolls” and “The Fantasticks”

Summertime provides entertainment opportunities throughout the Upper Delaware valley, and there are live stage shows popping up all over. Among them, both the Forestburgh Playhouse (FBP) and the Sullivan County Dramatic Workshop (SCDW) opened their doors for the season this past week.

The first show on the bill for the FBP is Frank Loesser’s “musical fable,” “Guys and Dolls.” Based on stories and characters written by Damon Runyon, with the show’s book written by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, “Guys” takes a peek into the world of gamblers, sinners, showgirls and saviors in the late 1940s.  Read more

Delaware board resolution affirms right to lease

Following a heated and frequently loud exchange between residents of the Town of Delaware and Delaware town board members at the regular monthly board meeting on Wednesday night, the board passed a resolution affirming the right of landowners within the town's borders to determine how they exercise any mineral rights they own "in accordance with the laws of the State of New York and the United States of America."  Read more
