Zoning hearings set for Bethel, Lumberland

WHITE LAKE AND GLEN SPEY, NY — The Town of Bethel will hold a public hearing on a proposed amendment to the town’s zoning code that would, among other things, prohibit natural gas and oil exploration and production on Thursday, March 15, at 7 p.m. at the Duggan Community Center.  Read more

Stolen Torah recovered

A valuable Torah stolen in December from the Landfield Avenue Synagogue has been recovered. Police arrested Christopher Colvill, 41, of Woodridge, on Tuesday, January 24 morning and charged him with criminal possession of stolen property. They recovered the scroll, valued at $35,000, from his house.  Read more

Honesdale budget up for public view

The Honesdale Borough Council has made the 2012 budget available for public inspection until February 7. The copy of the tentative budget is available for viewing at the borough building at 958 Main Street. The budget must be adopted by February 13.  Read more

Pike County adds to its fleet of buses

The Pike County Commissioners approved the inclusion of two 16-passenger vans and two seven-passenger minivans into the county’s transportation fleet.  Read more

Legislative steering committee called illegal; Sorensen to stop attending

County legislator Alan Sorensen is asking his colleagues to consider some major changes. In an email sent in the wake of a vote by the legislature to change the way tourism dollars are awarded in the county, Sorensen posted on his blog, www.legislatorsorensen.com, a suggestion that the county do away with the legislative steering committee, which is made up of the county chair, the vice chair, and the leaders of the majority and minority parties, who meet weekly with the county manager.  Read more
