MARGARET ISABELLE HAZEN
Margaret Isabelle Hazen, a 26-year resident of White Lake, NY, passed away suddenly on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at home. She was 71.

Edward F. Hefferon
Edward F. Hefferon, a resident of The Villages, FL and Berlin, WI, and a former resident of Yulan, NY, died on February 1, 2012. He was 75.
He was born in the Bronx on February 2, 1936. He was married to Maureen Mahoney from 1958 to her death in 1999. He married Patricia Trecker in 2001, who survives him.
Edward graduated from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY in 1957. He worked as an auditor for the U.S. General Accounting Office and then the U.S. General Services Administration until retirement in 1993. Read more
ROSE MARIE KAUFMANN
Rose Marie Kaufmann of Damascus, PA, a former employee of the Upper Delaware Campground in Callicoon, NY, died Saturday, February 4, 2012 at her home. She was 96.
Daughter of the late George Otto and Rosine Fackelmann McGowan, she was born on April 12, 1915 in Maspeth, Queens. She was the widow of Albert Francis Kaufmann.
Rose will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and very proud great-great grandmother. Read more

Howard S. Murns, a lifelong Sullivan County resident, passed away at his home in Cochecton, NY on Tuesday January 31, 2012. He was 72.

PATRICK NORTON
Patrick Norton of Hortonville, NY, a self employed handyman and longtime resident, died Thursday, February 2, 2012 in Callicoon, NY. He was 63.
Patrick was born November 18, 1948 in Yonkers, NY to the late Peter and Rhoda Norton.
Survivors include his fiance, Gizell Gebrieh; daughter Shannon Norton; son Peter Norton and wife Susan; grandchildren Amaya Burgess and Peter Norton Jr.; stepchildren Bridget and Beth Gebrieh; and sister Susan Buonocore.
Funeral services were held February 6 at Stewart-Murphy Funeral Home, Callicoon. Burial was in Hortonville Cemetery, Hortonville. Read more
LISA ANN PEGOSH
Lisa Ann Pegosh passed away February 1, 2012 at her home in Beach Lake, PA. She was 49.
She was born in 1963 in Manchester, CT and lived in Tinton Falls, NJ until moving to Beach Lake in 2003.
A graduate of Monmouth Regional High School and Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ, Lisa worked for AT&T for most of her career. She enjoyed cooking and gardening and being with family and friends. She will be greatly missed. Read more
EMORY A. ROLSTON
Emory A. Rolston of Beach Lake, PA, a lifelong resident of the area and retired truck driver for Narrowsburg Lumber, died Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Wayne Woodland Manor, Waymart, PA. He was 90.
The son of the late Arthur and Edna (Brucher) Rolston, he was born August 17, 1921 in Milanville, PA.
Emory was a member of the Milanville Methodist Church and served in the Army. A family statement reads in part: “Emory was a loving family man. To know Dad was to love Dad. He took wonderful care of his family. He will be missed and lovingly remembered.” Read more
Albert J. Smink
Albert J. Smink, formerly of Hawley, PA and Barryville, NY, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at Wayne Woodlands Manor, Waymart, PA. He was 79.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Norma Hopps, in 1992.
Born in Holland in 1933, he immigrated to the United States when he was 18. He served as an MP in the United States Army.
Prior to retirement, he was employed as bar manager at Paupack Hills Country Club, and formerly as bartender at Tanglwood Ski Area. An active stamp collector and dealer, he also enjoyed boating on Lake Wallenpaupack. Read more

Robert Lewis Weist of Prompton, PA died Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at his home. He was 71.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, the former Bonnie Lou Ward. The couple married April 21, 1962.
Born October 29, 1940 in Honesdale, PA, he was the son of the late Robert Franklin and Anna D. Kennedy Weist. Read more
Easy winter living
I have a terrarium of moss and ferns that we planted in a glass domed cake plate—the type of plate you see upon a diner counter with a carrot cake inside. My terrarium sits in the middle of my kitchen table like a green island of spring. I like to lift the lid off the pedestal and breathe in its moist, pungent woodland smell. It is a world unto itself. We planted it so as to have some green in the winter months, but without the contrast of winter whiteness it doesn’t have quite the same effect. Read more
